Eczema Skin Locations

With the eczema, the skin can be affected in a number of unpleasant ways. Location of the rash, severity of the disorder, and even appearance can be different. Eczema and the other skin conditions aren’t limited to a certain region of the body. There are some areas of the skin that are more commonly affected, but it can and does appear in a variety of less typical places. Here is an example of some of the areas commonly affected by eczema and the different eczema types they usually represent.

  • eczema of the scalp
  • foot eczema
  • hand eczema
  • breast eczema

Eczema of the scalp is probably more common than you realize. Many people may experience symptoms on the scalp and nowhere else on the body. Like psoriasis of the scalp, eczema of the scalp often manifests as dandruff. The sufferer is forced to deal with the itching and flaking, but the up side is that the rash isn’t visible. Medicated shampoos are effective in most cases. Of course it is possible for the condition to become so severe that more intense methods of treatment are necessary.

In the case of foot eczema, it most commonly appears on the soles of the feet. The tops and toes are affected less often. The challenge of treating the feet is that any topical medication often is rubbed off before it has a chance to fully absorb into the skin. In this case, it is helpful to apply the ointment immediately before bed when you aren’t up and walking around. Many people with eczema of the feet experience pain when walking due to broken lesions.

Like the feet, eczema on the hands is somewhat of a challenge as well. It most commonly appears on the palms and fingers. Very rarely will eczema show up on the backs of the hands or in between the fingers. Medication is difficult to keep on since everyone uses their hands constantly. The creams simply rub off. Depending on the exact location and severity of the rash, everyday tasks can be hard to perform.

Breast eczema often occurs on the nipples. It can certainly spread to the outer areas of the breast as well. This type of eczema most often affects young girls during puberty. The nipples may ooze and the skin on and around the nipple may develop a scaly texture. As if puberty wasn’t hard enough without all of that hassle.
